New border market opens in Tibet

A commercial complex opened in Gyirong county in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region near the border with Nepal on Wednesday.

According to the local government, the Gyirong international bordertrade market was constructed with a total investment of 42.5 million yuan (about 6 million U.S. dollars).

Businessmen from Nepal, Pakistan and other nearby countries opened their booths at the market on the first business day, attracting many tourists.

"The opening of the market will boost the development of border trade and local tourism industry," said Hu Hong, head of the county government.

In the first half of 2018, the combined value of imports and exports in Gyirong port reached 1.39 billion yuan, up 11.8 percent year-on-year.
