When he was a child, he worked as a serf, and he begged on the street to be given alms by the monks of the monastery; he didn't have enough to eat or wear, and he lived in a wooden house stained black by smoke.

Today, he lives in a new house, surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

75-year-old Tibetan Tsering Namgyal has suffered through the vicissitudes of life, but today, he watches TV everyday, waters his flowers, holds kittens in the sun in his courtyard, and lives a happy and quiet old age life.

Tsering Namgyal is from Zanda County, Ngari Prefecture, Tibet. Like other villagers, he lived for many years in a relatively old wooden house. Living in a new house has become a dream for him and the rest of the village.

In 2016, Zanda County was chosen as a pilot county of building well-off villages on the border. In August of that year, the first phase of the housing reconstruction project carried out by the Tuolin Township neighborhood committee began. A total of 23 new houses were built as well as a paved road, green belts, and water pipes.

"In October 2017, Tsering Namgyal and his daughter, grandson, and granddaughter moved into their 180-square-meter, two-story house new house," Tuolin township mayor Dawa Wangdul said.

Reporters saw Tsering Namgyal's bright and spacious living room and different pieces of furniture and household appliances.

Because there are earth forests and relics of the Guge kingdoms in Zanda County, tourism here is relatively developed, and Tsering Namgyal's family has set aside rooms on the second floor in preparation for a homestay.
