Florida's Secretary of State has ordered a machine recount of votes in the neck-and-neck races for the U.S. Senate and the state's governorship.

The results of the recounts are due out by Thursday afternoon local time.

In the election for the U.S. Senate seat, Republican Governor Rick Scott had seen his lead narrow over incumbent Democratic Senator Bill Nelson cut down to just 0.15 percent.

In the race for governor, Republican congressman Ron DeSantis holds an advantage of 0.41-percent over Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum.

Gillum had earlier conceded to DeSantis, but now says he wants to wait for the results of the recount.

Florida requires a machine recount when a leading candidate's margin of victory is half-a-percent or lower.

A hand recount is required if the race is 0.25 or less.

The two contests are the highest-profile races still undecided after the U.S. mid-term elections.
