Tibet opens training classes for “Tibetan Opera” inheritor
Tibet’s first general training course for “Tibetan Opera” inheritors, which is jointly held by the Tibet Autonomous Region Culture Bureau and Tibet University, began on November 2 in Lhasa. The training course will last for one month, and a total of 43 participants are attending.
Tibetan Opera is one of the most important art forms in Tibet and a cultural treasure of the Chinese nation. In May 2006, Tibetan Opera was included in the first group of national intangible cultural heritage list.
This year, the Tibet Culture Bureau awarded the title of “Tibetan Opera Inheritance Site” to 143 local Tibetan opera troupes and initiated legislative protection of Tibetan Opera. One official said that the preservation and inheritance of Tibetan Opera will now be more systematic, more standardized, and more scientific.
