Security and privacy are the top considerations for the location of the Trump-Kim summit, experts said on Wednesday after a hotel on an island of "peace and tranquility" in Singapore was chosen.

The venue for the upcoming summit between US President Donald Trump andNorth Korean leaderKim Jong-unon Tuesday "will be the Capella Hotel on Sentosa Island," White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders tweeted on Wednesday.

The hotel, featuring 112 rooms and suites, opened in 2009 and belongs to the local Pontiac Land Group owned by the Singaporean Kwee brothers, according to the hotel's official website.

Rooms cost more than 50,000 yuan ($7,800) to 1.5 million yuan a night, according to agoda.com, a hotel booking website.

All rooms are fully booked throughout the summit until June 16, the website showed.

The island off Singapore's southern coast has one land link: a 710-meter causeway to the mainland.

Its name in Malay means "peace and tranquility," Newsweek reported.

The hotel has not hosted high-level political meetings in the past, according to Newsweek, although the US and North Korean delegations got together four times at the hotel last week to plan the summit.

"The location choice should be the result of a joint consultation among all three parties: North Korea, the US and Singapore," Lü Chao, a research fellow at the Liaoning Academy of Social Sciences, told the Global Times on Tuesday. "And the selection of the venue should have considered safety and privacy as top concerns."

The location of the island is a little remote for those living on the mainland of Singapore, a Singapore-based student told the Global Times on Wednesday. He refused to be named.

"I don't think the government is strengthening security as the security of the country is always tight," he said.
