Tibetan opera performances highlight the Shoton Festival
Tibetan opera shows were carried out on the second day of the traditional Lhasa Shoton Festival on August 12. A total of 11 Tibetan opera teams joined in this year’s Shoton Festival shows and competition, including about 270 folk Tibetan opera artists and over 70 professional actors.At 11 o’ clock, the show begins with audiences encircling the stage. A Tibetan opera team from the Namling County, Shigatse performed the show named Tempa Dampa in the Norbu Lingka, the summer palace of the Dalai Lama.Tibetan Opera has a history of more then 600 years, and is reputed as "the living fossil of Tibetan culture". It is usually performed based on folk stories, historical legends and Buddhist classics.
