Flag raising ceremony held in Chicago to celebrate China's National Day

  CHICAGO, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese national flag was raised Friday at Daley Plaza in downtown Chicago of the United States to celebrate the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

  Hundreds of Chinese, Chinese Americans, and Chicagoans with different ethnic backgrounds attended the ceremony, watching Chinese national flag being raised along with the Chinese national anthem was played.

  Waving mini Chinese and the U.S. flags, the spectators at Daley Plaza also enjoyed traditional Chinese performances, such as Qipao show, Chinese folk dance and music.

  Addressing the ceremony, acting Chinese Consul General in Chicago Liu Jun extended his greetings to Chinese nationals and Chinese Americans in Greater Chicago area and Midwest United States, saying that "with the development of 69 years, China has achieved tremendous success, which is encouraging and inspiring for Chinese people all over the world."

  "This December marks the 40th year anniversary of 'Joint Communique on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the People's Republic of China and the United States of America', and I hope we can together promote Sino-U.S. friendship." Liu said.

  Zheng Zheng, Chairwoman of Chinese American Association of Greater Chicago (CAAGC), said the United States and China are the two most important countries in the world, and the friendly relationship between the two countries not only benefits both countries but also the whole world.

  "We will work together to enrich and empower Chinese American communities through civic engagement, heritage sharing, youth development and a greater understanding between U.S. and China for the well-being of all Americans in the greater Chicago area." Zheng said.
