More than 590,000 people have visited Ngari, Tibet this year
It is reported that during the first eight months of 2018, a total of 594,464 people have visited Ngari Prefecture in southwest China's Tibet, a significant increase from last year. Tourism revenue has reached more than 724 million yuan (106 million US dollars).
With the completion of the paved No. 219 National Highway, the building of Ngari Kunsha Airport, as well as improvements to tourist services in Ngari Prefecture, more and more tourists have chosen to visit Ngari in recent years. They have travelled in RVs, motorcycles, and off-road vehicles to tour around the area. “In 2017, the number of tourists who visited Ngari Prefecture exceeded 660,000.”
Ngari Prefecture is located at China's southwestern border in the western part of Tibet. It is a place where the Himalayas and the Gangdise mountain ranges meet, and it is also the source region for the Yarlung Tsangpo River, the Indus River, and the Ganges River. Because of this, the region is often called "the ancestor of ten thousand mountains" and "the source of a hundred rivers".
