Nomads in the Nujiang River Valley region in Damdul Township, Denqen County, Chamdo City, Tibet have captured a total of 56 images of snow leopard activity over a period of three months, indicating that the area is one of the most important habitats for snow leopards in eastern Tibet.

Snow leopards are China's first-class national protected animals and are on the red list of Threatened species for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). They are known as the "barometer" for the health of high-altitude ecosystems. As an indicator and flagship species for the ecological health of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, snow leopards have been receiving more and more attention in recent years.

Monitoring took place from January to March 2018 and covered an area of about 300 square kilometers in the Nujiang River Valley. 20 infrared cameras captured a total of 56 images of snow leopards. In addition, photos were taken of white-lipped deer, musk deer, brown bears, and other rare animals.

The Nujiang River is one of the richest biodiversity areas in China. Thus, strengthening research on and preservation of the biodiversity in the Nujiang River source area is incredibly valuable.
