Black pottery brings prosperity to Shangri-La
Jampa, an inheritor of Shangri-La black pottery, registered and established the Shangri-La Nyishar Black Pottery Development Co., Ltd. in 2005, which uses a “corporation + farmers” approach to help lead people out of poverty and onto the road of prosperity.
In recent years, Deqen Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture has increased its support for the development of Nyishar black pottery, training inheritors in order to preserve and continue to pass down this ancient handicraft.
There are now five or six black pottery cooperatives and small potter companies in local. Nearly every family in the village produces black pottery, and each household has someone who has mastered the handicraft. Annual income for these families has increased from a few thousand yuan to tens of thousands of yuan. Black pottery has become a “golden rice bowl” for villagers to increase their income and become richer.
