After restructuring, the Tibetan Medicine Pharmaceutical Factory of Tibet Autonomous Region with a history of over 50 years was formally inaugurated as "Mantsikhang Preparation Room" on Dec. 21, marking more professional Tibetan medicine production and processing in Tibet,

"Mantsikhang Preparation Room is the largest and most standardized Tibetan medicine preparation room in the region," said Yeshe Yangzong, head of the Tibet Autonomous Region Hospital of Tibetan Medicine.

In 2011, the government of Tibet restructured the Tibetan Medicine Pharmaceutical Factory of Tibet Autonomous Region to optimize the allocation of resources and improve operational efficiency. After the State Administration for Industry & Commerce accepted the application of Mantsikhang Preparation Room for trademark registration and its packaging design, Mantsikhang obtained the Pharmaceutical Preparation Certificate for Medical Institutions in November this year.

Establishment of Mantsikhang Preparation Room will not only bring good economic benefits but also generate comprehensive social benefits by inheriting the culture of the time-honored Mantsikhang brand. It also serves as a base to inherit the intangible cultural heritage of Tibetan medicine. According to Lhapa Tsering, director of Mantsikhang Preparation Room, Tibetan medicine enterprises produce mainly the medicines with code number approved by the State Food and Drug Administration. However, they only produce more than 200 kinds of Tibetan medicines among the 300-plus kinds in common clinical use. The remaining medicines will be produced by Mantsikhang Preparation Room according to clinical demands, and the Tibetan medicines produced by the preparation room are mainly used for clinical treatment in Tibetan medicine hospitals.

In the future, Mantsikhang Preparation Room will combine the traditional and high-end science and integrate the basic research, clinical research and preparation production of Tibetan medicine to achieve self-sufficiency in production of Tibetan medicine.
