Sorry, but this party won't be happening.

The US embassy in Australia has apologized on Monday for a "training error" after sending an invitation featuring a pyjama-wearing cat.

The email, titled "meeting," was accompanied by a photo of a cat wearing a blue Cookie Monster outfit and holding a plate of biscuits.

According to the Australian Associated Press, Gavin Sundwall, US Mission to Australia spokesperson, has apologized light-heartedly in a follow-up email: "Sorry to disappoint those of you who were hoping to attend this 'cat pyjama-jam' party, but such an event falls well outside our area of expertise."

"It was a training error made by one of our new staff testing out our email newsletter platform," said Gavin.

Reports say that in the clear case of misdirected correspondence last week, the email, sent by the US Department of State, also contained a section in Latin. Recipients were given the option to hit an RSVP tab.

It's unknown how widely the email was distributed.

Gavin says "strong new management controls" will be implemented to prevent such mistakes from happening again.
