China braces for 14th typhoon of the year

  East China's Zhejiang Province is bracing for the impact of Yagi, this year's 14th typhoon, which is expected to make landfall Sunday night, local flood control headquarters said on Sunday.

  The strong tropical storm is expected to land on the coast between Rui'an and Sanmen in Zhejiang. It will bring strong winds and heavy rainfall to most parts of the province.

  Precipitation started to hit several cities in Zhejiang on Sunday. Drainage facilities are in full operation to ensure the safety of reservoirs and rivers, the provincial flood control headquarters said.

  By Sunday noon, 135,160 people had been evacuated and a total of 24,582 vessels had returned to port, it said. A group of emergency salvaging vessels has been arranged.

  On Sunday, the Donghai Rescue Bureau of theMinistry of Transportsaid it rescued a cargo vessel, registered in the Republic of Korea, carrying 12 crew members, and a Chinese fishing vessel with eight people on board.

  China's national observatory on Sunday issued a blue alert for typhoon Yagi. China has a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.
