Tibet holds first yak industry development forum
Tibet's first-ever yak industry development forum commenced on August 6th in Lhasa, capital city of the region.
Yak is known as "the ship of the plateau"; it is a species unique to the extremely cold and high-altitude area. The yak mainly inhabits in regions above 3,000 meters on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. In 2017, Lhasa's Damxung yak and yak meat became geographical indication trademark products of China.
Damxung County of Lhasa City has already developed yak tenderloin steak, yak sirloin steak, yak chuck steak, yak black pepper beef rib, and other high value-added products.
During this event, the Culinary Association of China has also developed the “Namtso Burger,” made with Damxung yak meat and Lhasa highland barley.
