On the afternoon of April 10, the 11th Panchen Erdeni Choskyi Gyalpo came to visit the exhibition for 60th anniversary of democratic reform in Tibet.

  • The Tibet Autonomous Region was officially established.
  • For the first time in Tibet's history, general elections were held throughout Tibet. For the first time, former serfs and slaves gained their democratic rights to be masters of their own selves.
  • The State Council announced the dissolution of the former local government of Tibet, and the Tibet Autonomous Region Preparatory Committee exercised the power of the local government. The Central People's Government and the Tibet Autonomous Region Preparatory Committee led Tibetan people and implemented democratic reforms.
  • The Dalai Lama fled to India and later transferred to Dharamsala.
  • The upper ruling group of Tibet launched a full-scale armed rebellion and attempted to split Tibet from China.

  • The Dalai Lama and the Panchen Lama attended the first National People's Congress in Beijing as representatives of the people of Tibet and were elected as vice-chairmen of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.
  • The Dalai Lama sent a telegram to the Central People's Government Chairman Mao Zedong and publicly expressed his support for the implementation of the 17-Article Agreement.
  • The Central People's Government and the local government of Tibet signed the Agreement on Measures for the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet (referred to as the 17-Article Agreement) in Beijing.
  • The 15-year-old 14th Dalai Lama took over the reins of local government in Tibet.
  • The People's Liberation Army marched toward Tibet.
  • The People's Republic of China was established.
