Potala Palace receives over 170 pieces of cultural relics donation

The Potala Palace Management Office officially received a batch of cultural relics donated by individuals on June 15. 176 pieces of cultural relics will be properly preserved, studied and utilized.

The cultural relics donated include Buddha statues, thangka paintings, Dharma implements, scriptures, vestments, etc., including 4 first-class national cultural relics, 21 second-class national cultural relics, 35 third-class national cultural relics, 110 general cultural relics, as well as other cultural relics to be determined and non-cultural relics.

The Tibet Cultural Relics Appraisal Center believes that the donated cultural relics are rich in types and well preserved, and some of them have long history and high historical value. The donation of these precious cultural relics has further enriched the cultural relics collection in the Potala Palace.

Lobsang Tenzin has always paid great attention to the precious cultural relics scattered in society, and spared no effort to invest a large amount of money to collect them. He said that when he was young, he was influenced by many predecessors, such as Yexei Sherab, a Tibetan painting master. He hopes that by donating these relics, they can be properly preserved.

Penba Lobsang, chief of the cultural protection section of the Potala Palace Management Office, said that the Potala Palace Management Office will strengthen the protection and management of donated cultural relics and enhance academic researches, and later make public exhibitions available.
