The first Tibetan Go ranking match of the Tibet Autonomous Region ended in Lhasa, the region's capital city, on the evening of December 8, and 40 players became the first group of Go players with ranks in Tibetan Go history, which marked a key step for Tibetan Go marching towards a competitive sport event. 237 players from Sichuan, Inner Mongolia, and the Tibet Autonomous Region participated.

Tibetan Go is a kind of chess game spread throughout Tibet and in Tibetan areas of neighboring provinces. It is inextricably linked with the well-known game of Go.

Nie Weiping, a famous Chinese go player and "chess master", went to Tibet in 2015 to help preserve and promote Tibetan Go. In his opinion, Tibetan Go or other games of chess are conducive to broadening people's thinking and cultivating people's overall outlook, which is beneficial for both personal cultivation and for improving the quality of the nation and nationalities.

It is reported that in order to effectively preserve and pass down the tradition of Tibetan Go, the Tibet Autonomous Region established the first provincial Tibetan Go association in 2016 in China. In 2017, Tibetan Go was included in the fifth group of intangible cultural heritage item of the Tibet Autonomous Region. In 2019, Tibetan Go was played as a demonstration event during the 11th National Ethnic Traditional Sports Games for the first time.
