Songtsen Gampo is the most important and wellknown Tibetan King in history. He realized the unification of Tibet and established the Tubo Kingdom. In order to consolidate the unity of Tibet, Songtsen Gampo took a series of effective measures including promoting Buddhism, formulating Tibetan language, standardizing the units of length, capacity and weight, and encouraging people to cultivate farmland. In order to strengthen liaison, he married two princesses, Pincess Wencheng from the Tang Dynasty and Princess Bhrikuti from Nepal. In 641 when Songtsen Gampo married Princess Wencheng, he built Potala Palace on Marpori, the Red Hill, along with Jokhang Temple and Ramoche Temple, which deeply promoted the contemporary development of Tubo’s economy, culture, Buddhism and medicine.
