Serling Lake, located in the northern foothills of Mt. Kangdese, is a large deep-water lake and the third largest saltwater lake in China.

As an important animal husbandry base in northern Tibet, the region around Serling Lake also boasts the most rare and endangered species in the plateau alpine grassland ecosystem. It is the world’s largest nature reserve for black-necked cranes and has other national first-class protected animals such as snow leopards, Tibetan antelopes, argali, Tibetan wild donkeys, and Tibetan snowcocks. In addition to these rare and endangered species, during the spring and summer seasons, there are tens of thousands of Mediterranean brown-headed gulls flying all the way from the Mediterranean Sea, providing a spectacular scene.
