Tibet to offer earthquake quick reporting and early warning

2018-12-12 09:57:00China Tibet Online

The Tibet subsidiary system of China’s earthquake quick reporting and early-warning project will soon be under construction and is estimated to be completed and put into use by 2022. By then, alerts about destructive earthquakes in the Tibet region and warnings for secondary earthquakes around Lhasa area, capital of the region will be available.

Information from the earthquake warning system could be used to activate rescues and disaster relief efforts as soon as possible, and to minimize property losses, injuries, and deaths. Some critical projects, nuclear power facilities, and lifeline constructions could also use the earthquake warning system to win valuable time for emergency management and prevent a direct hit. The system will improve the disaster warning ability and make disaster management more efficient and scientific.
