On January 1, 2019, the main event of the 24th National New Year’s Mountain Climbing Conference (2019) was held in Tsechokling in Lhasa, capital of Tibet Autonomous Region. More than 400 amateur mountaineers gathered here to welcome the New Year.
“Climbing mountain and looking far into distance” is a tradition of the Chinese people to welcome the New Year. It means that life will be prosperous, happy and family members are all well in new year. Although the temperatures was low on the day of the event, the participants were excited and happy, using their passion for sports to interpret the concepts of low-carbon travel and healthy living.
“I hope that I can live better in the new year. I hope more of my friends will participate in these kinds of national exercise and fitness activities.” – Dorje Tsering, an amateur Lhasa climber.
“In 2019, my dream is to become a football player, to contribute to Chinese football!” – Lhakpa Tashi, an athlete in the climbing event youth group.
“My New Year’s wish is to get admitted to Shanghai Jiao Tong University.” – Tsedan Tashi, an athlete in the climbing event adult group.
“In 2019, I hope my parents will be healthy, everything goes well in my work, the country will get better and stronger!” – Lhakpa Drolma, an athlete in the climbing event adult group.
