New Yushu.
Angkel, former director of the Standing Committee of Yushu Prefecture People’s Congress, is a native of Yushu and has devoted 28 years to the construction of Yushu.
In Angkel’s view, the biggest change is the transformation of people’s minds in Yushu. “In the past, farmers and herdsmen did not think their children’s education was that important. They believed that children should become a labor force of their family once they turned eight years old. Now, they all take the initiative to send their children to school, what’s more, many parents in remote nomadic areas also rent a house in towns and send their children to school.”
“Another change is the emphasis on ecological environmental protection. Today, Yushu people’s awareness of environmental protection has increased, and littering has disappeared,” Angkel said.
