March 3 marked the 15th day of the first month of the Year of Fire Horse in the Tibetan calendar. Chokhor Monastery in Sog County, Nagqu, Xizang, held its annual 15th-Day Buddha Sculpture Display ceremony. Intricate sculptures made with butter radiated a unique charm.

The monastery’s tradition of crafting butter sculptures dates to the 15th century. From the 17th century onward, in particular, as the 15th-Day Buddha Sculpture Display ceremony gradually took shape, butter sculpture became an integral part of the monastery’s traditional culture. In 2023, this monastery’s butter sculpture art was officially inscribed on the fifth batch of the Xizang Autonomous Region’s representative list of intangible cultural heritage projects at the regional level.
