Nyingchi has lifted 23,893 impoverished people, about 10 percent of the city's total population, out of poverty so far.

The city has been striving to develop local industries to help local residents increase their income, and tackle extreme poverty by improving infrastructure and basic public services.

Xu Longhai, deputy mayor of Nyingchi, introduced that in recent years, Nyingchi has been encouraging local enterprises and cooperatives to scale up poultry breeding and the growing of herbs, fruits and vegetables.

In 2019, these industries benefited more than 40,000 residents whose average income increased by 2,000 yuan (about $305) at least, said the deputy mayor.
