Three economic and technological development zones established in Tibet

Besides the Lhasa Economic and Technological Development Zone, Tibet has established three development zones of such kind till now, with the Shigatse Economic and Technological Development Zone and the Nyingchi Economic and Technological Development Zone founded recently.

The Shigatse Economic and Technological Zone is located in the southern part of Shigatse City. The planned control range is 34.03 square kilometers, with 22.32 square kilometers of construction land, and a planned residential population of 120,000 people. The focus of the zone is on developing industries such as deep processing of agricultural and livestock products, natural drinking water, and environmentally-friendly food, modern logistics and bonded processing, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing.

The Nyingchi Economic and Technological Development Zone is located in the western part of Bayi Township in Bayi District of Nyingchi, across the river from the old town. The planned area is 7.11 square kilometers. National Highway 318, the airport expressway, and the planned Sichuan-Tibet Railway all pass through the zone.

The Nyingchi Economic and Technological Development Zone has an investment of 1.03 billion yuan (about 0.15 billion US dollars) till now and has completed basic infrastructure construction such as roads and communication networks. The Guangdong- Nyingchi Industrial Park, a clean energy base, a museum, and a cultural center were also established.

The Lhasa Economic and Technological Development Zone was established with the approval of China's State Council on September 19, 2001. It is the first economic and technological development zone in Tibet and was previously the only one in Tibet. The development of this zone has gradually matured.
