The annual wall painting of the 1,300-year-old World Heritage site started from Oct. 26 and took almost a week. Many residents of Lhasa voluntarily joined in the annual exterior renovation works, mixing ultra-fine lime, delivering lime slurry and spraying the paint onto the walls.
It's said that the re-painting has been a tradition for hundred years to protect the ancient architecture from damage caused by rain.
