On the morning of May 17, more than 20 readers at the Tibet Autonomous Region Library visited the only cultural experience center of the visually disabled in Tibet.

May 17 was the 30th National Day for the Disabled.

Putting on blindfolds, holding blind sticks in their hands, and following the introducer, Tsewang Dorje and other 10 readers stepped into the world of darkness. “After experiencing the darkness, I learned more about visually impaired groups. Although they can’t see, they can also perceive the world through sound and smell.”

It is learned that the experience center opened this year. By setting up a library and audio-visual room, the experience center allows visitors to perceive the world with a new perspective during the 90-minute journey and to “see” in the dark through sound, touch, smell, and taste.

An official with the Tibet Autonomous Region Library said that the purpose of this event is to inspire people to feel more warmth and kindness through the dark reading experience and to help visually impaired people to the best of their ability in daily life.
