Jiangjunlou (which means “general’s office”) Park, located in Golmud, Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, is named after General Mu Shengzhong, founder of Golmud. When you walk into the park, you will see the Memorial Tower of the Road to Heaven in the shape of herringbone, which is the landmark building of the park. The two lines of herringbone represent the Qinghai-Xizang Highway and Qinghai-Xizang Railway, respectively. The tower has a height of 39.16 meters, which symbolizes the total mileage of the Qinghai-Xizang Highway and Qinghai-Xizang Railway of 3,916 kilometers.
Similar to the tower, the sculpture group “Spirits of the Road Builders” in the park also stands for the hardships endured and accomplishments achieved by the road builders at that time. In addition, the “General Tree” planted by General Mu Shengzhong and the buildings such as Jiangjunlou are also the witnesses of that history.
