Since he was elected as a member of the CPPCC Committee of the Tibet Autonomous Region in 1998, Thubten Khedrup, with more than 20 years performing duties in the CPPCC, has submitted nearly 200 proposals covering a variety of fields at the regional and national CPPCC meetings. Each of his proposals is the result of in-depth grassroots research and listening to the voices of the masses. “Being a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference is the proudest thing in my life.” Thubten Khedrup said, “If a good proposal can be implemented, it is much more meaningful than ordinary academic discussions.” That is why he always carefully prepares for the “two sessions”.

“My previous proposals were basically passed and implemented.” This is why Thubten Khedrup’s so confident. In the past two years, he has brought two important proposals. The proposal about the inclusion of altitude sickness in the medical insurance system and achieve full coverage of medical insurance and the proposal on the protection of the Qing Dynasty Yadong Customs site and about the patriotic education base have been implemented. Both the proposals cover a wide range, including ecology, tourism, economy, education, culture, Tibetan medicine and other fields.

Thubten Khedrup is a doctoral tutor and professor in Chinese minority economics at Tibet University. Although he majors in the field of regional economics and tourism and culture, he likes to take care of everything. “This is my duty and mission as a member of the National Committee of CPPCC.” He said with a smile, “Many people ask me what direction I am studying in my major? To tell the truth, I don’t know. Because the more the country develops, the happier the people are, and the higher the requirement to write the thesis. I would say I don’t have a fixed professional research direction. If I have to say, the development and progress of Tibet is my research direction.”
