Celebrate bumper harvest, embrace prosperity

On the Harvest Festival, farmers and herdsmen danced circle dances and sang songs in Gamtog Town, Chamdo City, Tibet Autonomous Region to share the joy of the bumper harvest.

Chamdo is one of the most important agricultural areas in Tibet. Focusing on the goal of food security and increasing farmers’ incomes, Chamdo has creatively carried out agricultural work in accordance with local conditions. Grain production has been harvested here for 17 consecutive years.

In 2020, Chamdo’s grain output is expected to reach 189,800 tons, of which the highland barley output is expected to reach 166,200 tons, and the grain output to increase from 267 kg/acre in 2009 to 290 kg/acre. The level of agricultural mechanization has reached 57 percent and the total power of agricultural mechanization reached 1.1 million kilowatts. Meat and milk production is expected to reach 95,000 tons and 109,000 tons respectively. In the first half of 2020, the per capita disposable income of rural residents in Chamdo reached 3,769 yuan (552.5 US dollars), an increase of 10.5 percent over the same period last year.
