Buddha Painting Unfolding Ceremony Held in Sera Monastery

On the morning of August 23rd, a giant Thangka depicting Sakyamuni Buddha was exhibited at Sera Monastery in Lhasa, the Xizang Autonomous Region, marking the commencement of the annual Lhasa Shoton Festival.

The Shoton Festival, also known as the "Yogurt Festival," has a history of over 300 years and was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2006. The unfolding of the Buddha Thangka is one of the most important traditional activities of the festival.
