Believers gathered to pray with prayer wheels around the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Xizang, on May 28. This date marks the first day of the fourth month in the Tibetan calendar and signifies the commencement of the holy month of “Saga Dawa,” a traditional religious ceremony.
The fourth month in the Tibetan calendar, commonly referred to as the “Saga Dawa”, is significant as it commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana of Buddha Sakyamuni. Devotees honor the Buddha through various practices such as spinning prayer wheels, offering alms, burning incense, and releasing captive animals.
