Qarhan Salt Lake, known as “the first salt lake in Asia and the second salt lake in the world”, covers a total area of 5,856 square kilometers. The lake has several inward flowing rivers including the Golmud River and Qaidam River flowing into it. Qinghai-Tibet Railway crosses the lake. The lake water is green and its surface is wide. Looking at the horizon line in the distance, green waves are like mountains and stretch as far as the eye can see. Located in the Gobi Desert with rough sand, they form a piece of emerald in the world. There are a lot of salt crystals precipitated beside the lake, forming a thick white salt flat. It emits dazzling white light under the direct sunlight on the plateau.
