In the year 2021, Tibet Autonomous Region launched a number of characteristic tourist routes, such as the G219 world-class landscape avenue, red heritage tours, a golden ring road around Lhasa, 9 holiday destinations suitable for golden autumn tours, etc. Thanks to the efforts, some niche attractions in Tibet like the Khochunggangri Glacier, the famous village with water mill producing Tibetan incense and the mysterious forest are well known to the public, laying a good foundation for the tourism boom in Tibet during the Spring Festival holiday in 2022.

According to statistics, during the Spring Festival (from January 31 to February 6), Tibet received a total of 438,300 domestic and foreign tourists, a year-on-year increase of 40.7%. The total tourism revenue reached 315 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 46.5%. Among them, the number of tourists received by Lhasa, capital of Tibet, reached 241,500, a year-on-year increase of 33.64%, and the total tourism revenue reached 246 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 32.25%.

It is reported that the most popular scenic spots during the Spring Festival are the Potala Palace, the Basum Co Scenic Spot, and the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon Scenic Spot, etc. The Potala Palace alone received a total of 27,956 tourists.

“We chose to travel to Tibet during the Spring Festival holiday. The folk customs and Tibetan food here gave us an immersive experience of how the New Year is celebrated in Tibet. In the next few days, we plan to visit some famous attractions. Luckily, the preferential policies for winter travel to Tibet are still going on. ” said Ms. Li from Yunnan.

It is understood that in order to further expand the influence of tourism in Tibet, the Tourism Development Department of the region recently announced that the preferential policies for winter travel to Tibet will last to March 9, 2022. During the period, all scenic spots except temple scenic spots are all free to visit. In addition, the Tourism Development Department of region has also issued incentive measures for “Local People travel in Tibet in winter by Fuxing(Chinese for rejuvenation) High-speed train”, which not only benefits tourists, but also help relieve the difficulties of tourism enterprises in the region, so as to boost tourism economy of Tibet.
