February 2, 2025 marks the 29th World Wetlands Day, with “Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future” as its theme. Wetlands are called the “kidneys of the earth,” species reservoirs, and climate regulators because they have diversified ecological functions and rich natural resources.

The Xizang Autonomous Region continuously promotes wetland protection and has achieved remarkable results. By the end of 2024, 15 nature reserves of wetland types and 22 national wetland parks had been established in the region. Wetlands in Mapham Yutso, Maidika, Serling Tso Lake, and Zhari Namco are on the List of Wetlands of International Importance. Wetlands in Lhalu, Lhathok, and Pangong Tso Lake are on the National Important Wetland List. Additionally, a list of 22 important wetlands at the autonomous region level has been published.

Water plants are luxuriant, birds are happy, and there are herds of cattle and sheep. Let’s  enjoy the beautiful wetlands in Xizang.
