Have you ever thought of how the long railway in the “depopulated zone” was built when you took the train of Qinghai-Xizang Railway in the magnificent scenery of the plateau? What kind of unknown heroes could create such an epic miracle?

Recently, the photo album We Build Railways On The Roof Of The World was published and distributed by the Foreign Languages Press of the China International Communications Group, uncovering a glimpse of this magnificent epic. Wang Quanquan, a photographer who participated in the construction of multiple railways such as Qinghai-Xizang Railway, Xining-Golmud Railway, and Sichuan-Xizang Railway (Lhasa-Nyingchi section), captured and froze the moments of struggle and dedication of constructors with his camera from a unique perspective, creating a series of breathtaking works.

After workers experienced difficulties and obstacles, the Phase 2 Project of the Qinghai-Xizang Railway starting from Nanshankou, Golmud, Qinghai and ending in Lhasa, Xizang was finally opened to traffic on July 1, 2006, closely connecting Xizang with other places in China. In December 2014, the construction of the Lhasa-Nyingchi section of the Sichuan-Xizang Railway, an extreme challenge in the engineering history of humans up to now, officially started. With the spirit and feelings when they built the Qinghai-Xizang Railway, the railway construction troops conquered the limits of nature inch by inch, ?writing yet another legendary chapter in human endeavor.

As a witness and participant in the construction of these two railways on the plateau, Wang Quanquan not only saw the magnificent scene of the construction of the railway on the plateau firsthand but also profoundly felt the spirit of the railway builders and the great changes brought about by the railway construction to Xizang. He transformed this emotion into magnificent photos and heartfelt sentiments, and vividly showed the perseverance and struggling spirit of railway construction troops in the high and cold land of snow to readers.
