All 70,000 roses in the Modern Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Industrial Park in Chanang County, Shannan City, southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region have bloomed.

The two-story buildings are scattered around Songka Village, and a villager named Tashi is decorating her living room. Today, Tashi is no longer helpless and distressed as she was a few years ago.

37-year-old Tashi has an elderly father and a son who is in primary school. The family of three relies on her to live. As the only labor force in the family, Tashi has to earn money without going too far away.

In 2017, the completion of the Chanang County Modern Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Industrial Park solved this difficulty for her.

“I work in the strawberry base in the industrial park in my free time. I earn 150 yuan (21 US dollars) per day, which greatly increases my income.” Tashi is very satisfied with the job because she can care for her family while working.

“Strawberry planting, management, picking, and packaging, each part of the process has a large demand for labor. As many as 30 people are neededper day at most,” said Xie Lekui, head of the industrial park. Xie said that the industrial park has already paid more than 4.6 million yuan (about 650,000 US dollars) to local villagers.

Since the establishment of the Chanang County Modern Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Industrial Park, it has strived to drive poverty-stricken households out of poverty, solve work problems for local villagers, and solve employment problems for 26 local university students. Each year, the industrial park will provide 30 internships to undergraduates from Nyingchi Agriculture and Animal Husbandry School and Shannan Vocational School.

Last year, a professor at China Agricultural University settled in the Chanang County Modern Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Industrial Park, which is the only professor workstation built in Tibet by universities. After put into operation, it began to provide a steady stream of intellectualsto the production line.

The dairy farming base of the industrial park introduced 100 Herstein black and white cows last month. Dairy farming is expected to increase the local villagers’income by around 300,000 RMB (42,390 US dollars). “It can be said that the industrial park has started to really help local villagers achieve employment and income growth nearby.”

The Chanang County Modern Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Industrial Park was established in 2017 with a total investment of 70 million yuan (about 10 million US dollars). The industrial park includes a strawberry greenhouse, a rose garden, a forage breeding base, an organic fertilizer plant, and a high-quality dairy farming base.
