On December 10, at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new campus of the Tibetan Traditional Medicine College, president Nyima Tsering said that they will build a world-class Tibetan medicine university.

According to Nyima Tsering, in the school’s 29 years of modern study practices, it has built two leading specialty disciplines, Tibetan medicine and Tibetan pharmacy. The school has trained the first group of undergraduate, master, and doctoral students of Tibetan medicine for China and also undertaken the work of formulating an international training program on Tibetan medicine for the World Health Organization (WHO). The school enjoys a high reputation both at home and abroad.

In Nyima Tsering’s view, this is inseparable from the increasingly broad prospects of Tibetan medicine. In particular, on November 28, the “Tibetan Medicinal Bathing” therapy method was successfully accepted as an UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage item, which has given Tibetan medicine more influence in the world.

Focusing on the future, Nyima Tsering said that they will build a world-class Tibetan medicine university and will turn this university into a training base for professionals in Tibetan medicine and pharmaceuticals, an inheritance base for traditional Tibetan medicine culture, and an innovation base for research and development of Tibetan medicine. After the new campus is completed and used in 2021, it will also welcome foreign students to come and study and spread Tibetan medicine culture to the whole world.
