More than 2,800 5G base stations have been built in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, local authorities said on Friday.

The region has achieved full mobile phone signal coverage at all its grade-A scenic spots, local officials said at the fourth session of the 11th regional people's congress.

The construction of other tourist facilities has also been stepped up in the region, with facilities at an average altitude of over 4,000 meters and in a harsh natural environment.

The region currently has a total of 116 grade-A scenic spots, five of which are ranked 5A, including the Potala Palace in the regional capital of Lhasa.

Tibet saw some 35.05 million visitors in 2020, with total tourism revenues reaching 36.64 billion yuan (about 5.66 billion U.S. dollars), according to the regional tourism bureau.
