The Pangong Tso Lake lies in Rutog County, Ngari Prefecture of Xizang, at an elevation of 4,240 meters above sea level. It is the largest lake in the western part of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. The salinity of its waters increases from east to west, creating a stunning gradient of blues and greens under the sunlight.
At the heart of the lake sits the Bird Island, where flocks of birds fly freely in the sky. Each summer, brown-headed gulls, bar-headed geese, and even rare species such as the black-necked crane, a nationally protected first-class animal, gather here to breed. From a distance, this island presents a breathtaking spectacle characterized by wheeling gulls and nesting flocks, a vivid display of life on this plateau.
