"Be careful! Don't lose your saddle and get hurt." Says the 28-year-old Gyanga Norbu, helping a tourist get on his horse and took him to visit the Midoi Glacier not far from the village.

The Midoi Glacier is located in Bome County, Nyingchi City, Tibet Autonomous Region. In recent years, Midoi Village at the foot of the mountain increases villagers’ income through providing horses for tourists to ride and participating in the operation of sightseeing bus.

"When the peach blossoms bloom in March, tourists like to ride horses for sightseeing." Gyanga Norbu says that all 58 households in the village participate in the providing horse business.

The horses take turns to pick up tourists, and the fees charged are managed by the village committee and distributed to villagers at the end of the year. According to Gyanga Norbu, last year, his family's income from horse riding tourism reached more than 40,000 yuan.

The reporter sees small courtyards with sloping roofs stand one after another in Midoi Village. Along the road leading to the glacier, there are many shops such as canteens, tea houses, and specialty stores. The canteen of 35-year-old villager Dorlma Tso is among them. "In the past, there were many tourists and business was relatively good. In the peak season, we had an income of more than 400 yuan a day." She said that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of tourists had decreased, but the income was still considerable. Last year, the income of the store alone was more than 15,000 yuan.

As for the scenic sightseeing bus project, Midoi Village organized villagers to invest in the project at the standard of 29,600 yuan per household. In 2021, the project increased the income of each household by nearly 20,000 yuan. At the same time, the project also employed 10 local villagers as sightseeing bus drivers, with an average monthly income increase of 6,000 yuan.

In 2021, the number of tourists in Midoi Glacier scenic spot reached 112,500 person-times, and the total income from tourism reception reached 11.1788 million yuan. The per capita disposable income of villagers exceeded 50,000 yuan. "I believe that the business will be better and better in the future, and life will be more promising," said Dorlma Tso.
