December 14, recognized as the 25th day of the tenth month in the Tibetan calendar, marks the annual traditional Butter Lamp Festival. This day serves as a significant religious commemoration for the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. On this occasion, both monastics and lay practitioners honor the founder of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism, Master Tsongkhapa, by lighting butter lamps.

As night descended upon Tashilhunpo Monastery—one of the four principal Gelug monasteries located in Xigaze City, Xizang—monastics partook in the time-honored religious practice of illuminating butter lamps to pay homage to Master Tsongkhapa.
