In the early autumn, Kyerpa Village in Conggo Township, Gongbo Gyamda County, Nyingchi, Xizang, is filled with the joy of harvest.
In the fields surrounding Basum Tso Lake, the heads of highland barley stand golden and abundant, while the aroma of ripening wheat wafts through the air. Villagers navigate through the fields with sickles, and machines shuttle back and forth, collecting the fruits of their labor into granaries.
The bountiful harvest of plateau crops can be attributed to the fertile soil and ample glacial waters of Basum Tso Lake, as well as this year’s favorable weather conditions. “The grains are exceptionally heavy this year—the yield surpasses that of previous years!” remarked a villager with a smile.
The joy of the harvest is further amplified by the region’s natural advantages. Situated near the scenic Basom Tso Lake, Kyerpa Village attracts a steady stream of tourists all year round. The villagers have capitalized on this opportunity by developing ecological tourism, establishing family-run inns and restaurants, and selling homegrown highland barley along with other agricultural products—transforming their abundant harvests into tangible income. As a result, local per capita disposable income has seen a steady increase.
Amidst the lush green mountains and crystal-clear waters, the harvest in Kyerpa Village represents not only granaries brimming with grain but also a vibrant illustration of rural revitalization and the villagers’ journey towards an improved quality of life.
