Galai Village, Bayi District, Nyingchi City, Xizang, is alongside National Highway 318 (coded G318). Surrounded by mountains on the left and right sides, this village benefits from snowmelt flowing down from the high peaks. Peach blossoms always adorn the banks in spring, attracting residents to name it “Peach Blossom Gully.” In the past, villagers would cut down peach trees and use them for heating as firewood. They had never thought they could achieve prosperity through tourism centered around their beautiful peach blossoms.
Thanks to the forestry policy of sealing mountain passes and prohibiting deforestation, the wild peach trees in Galai Village are well-protected. Seeing so many tourists captivated by the beauty of the peach blossoms that they forget to leave, the residents of Galai Village exclaimed, “We never realized how stunning our peach blossoms were!” In 2002, Galai Village held its first “Peach Blossom Festival.” This small festival has grown significantly over the years. In recent years, it has emerged as the primary venue for the Peach Blossom Tourism and Cultural Festival in Nyingchi City. A few years ago, villagers raised RMB 500,000 to transform a hillside abundant with peach blossoms into the Peach Garden Scenic Area. Galai Village also developed supporting industries such as happy farmhouses and sightseeing, along with picking gardens based on this scenic area, thereby increasing the income of its villagers.
With the development of the peach blossom economy, Galai Village has undergone significant transformations. Today, the roads are well-maintained, the courtyards are spacious and bright, and the air is fresh throughout the village. Groups of tourists stroll through the area, admiring the blooming peach trees and picturesque scenery while experiencing rural life in the new countryside on the plateau.
