Mingji Tsomo, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and a professor at the Xizang University of Tibetan Medicine, focuses on exploring ways to ensure that Tibetan medicine, an invaluable gem within China’s rich traditional culture, continues to thrive in the new era. During the “two sessions” in 2025, she advocated enhancing the transformation of scientific research achievements and promoting high-quality development in Tibetan medicine through inheritance and innovation.
Mingji Tsomo is a Tibetan medicine expert and an educator cultivating talents in Tibetan medicine. At the Xizang University of Tibetan Medicine where she works, a comprehensive educational system has been established that promotes coordinated development across multiple levels, including undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education. This initiative has successfully cultivated over 7,000 professionals with degrees in Tibetan medicine. During this year’s “two sessions,” Mingji Tsomo contributed further recommendations regarding discipline construction. She emphasizes that Tibetan medicine is a sub-discipline that inherently limits professional training to some extent, including continuing to specialize and carrying out talent training.
Not long ago, the nameplate of the National Traditional Chinese Medicine Center (Tibetan Medicine) was unveiled in Lhasa. This center is the first national ethnic medicine institution officially approved by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Mingji Tsomo believes that this marks a historical achievement and heralds a new chapter in the development of Tibetan medicine. She said: “Traditional medicine is a fruit created by human civilization that must be preserved for future generations. It also needs to evolve with the times and embrace innovation. I am committed to actively providing suggestions, participating in governance and discussions on state affairs, and conveying everyone’s perspectives on promoting Tibetan medicine to the ‘two sessions’, fulfilling my mission and responsibilities as a member of the National Committee of the CPPCC.”
