Founded in 1073 AD, Sagya Monastery in Sagya County, Xigaze, China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, is known as “Dunhuang on the Snowy Plateau.” The monastery houses an impressive collection of approximately 2,000 pieces of porcelain. These artifacts encompass a variety of shapes and structures, including bowls, kettles, boxes, and statues. A selection of porcelain relics from the monastery’s collection is displayed at the Sagya Historical and Cultural Exhibition Hall.
Most of these precious cultural relics are gifts bestowed by central governments of past dynasties to Sagya Monastery, as well as locally produced porcelains. These artifacts exemplify the artistic integration of porcelain-making techniques with local culture, highlighting the long-standing history of exchange, communication, and blending among ethnic groups in China.
Visit the ancient city of Sagya to witness the harmonious blending of cultures in its relics and to explore the historical echoes that resonate through time.
