Spokesperson of the Chinese Mission to the EU spoke on a question concerning the European Parliament's China-related resolution.
Q: On April 30, 2026, the European Parliament adopted a resolution concerning China's ethnic policies and laws. What is China’s comment?
A: The relevant resolution of the European Parliament disregards facts and the rule of law, maliciously smears China’s laws and ethnic policies, and grossly interferes in China’s internal affairs. China expresses strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition, and has lodged solemn representations with the EU side.
China is a unified multi-ethnic country, and all ethnic groups maintain a relationship featuring equality, solidarity, mutual assistance and harmony. The Chinese government protects the lawful rights and interests of people of all ethnic groups in accordance with the law. The rights of people of all ethnic groups in political, economic, cultural and social fields are fully guaranteed.
China urges the European Parliament to uphold conscience and respect facts, immediately stop interfering in China's internal affairs under the pretext of human rights, stop endorsing and supporting anti-China separatist forces, stop smearing China's policies and laws, and take concrete steps to safeguard the sound and steady development of China-EU relations.
Prof. Guan Kai, dean of the School of Ethnology and Sociology at Minzu University of China, said in a recent interview with China News Service’s West-East Talk program that countries around the world have each developed distinctive approaches to ethnic affairs governance. Relying on the institutional strengths of socialism, China has built strong social mobilization capacity in poverty alleviation, social security, and infrastructure development, driving leapfrog development in ethnic minority areas and border regions. This model emphasizes that “not a single ethnic group should be left behind”, pursues ethnic equality and common prosperity, and differs from approaches dominated by market-based resource allocation.
It is also evident that among those who once believed in Western narratives, many are changing their views, because many facts about China have been truthfully presented to the world.
Since modern times, despite the severe challenges posed by colonialism and imperialism, the continuity of Chinese civilization has never been interrupted. Promoting extensive exchanges, interactions, and integration among all ethnic groups reflects the enduring values of Chinese civilization, including the traditional ideas of harmony and “all people under the heaven are of one family”, passed down through history. The global significance of this Chinese legacy still deserves further exploration and interpretation.
