American Teenagers Explored Thangka Paintings in Tongren City, the Birthplace of Regong Art

Recently, a study group comprising 23 teenagers from Utah, USA, visited Tongren City in Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of China’s Qinghai Province. This region is renowned as the birthplace of Regong art, a traditional Tibetan art school.

During their visit, the group explored and learned about this unique art, engaging in the creation of simple Thangka paintings. Regong art encompasses various artistic expressions, including Thangka paintings, barbola works, and sculptures. In recognition of its cultural significance, it was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009.
