A Date with Culture: Celebrating the Beauty of Intangible Heritage

To mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Xizang Autonomous Region and the 2025 “Cultural and Natural Heritage Day” promotion and exhibition event, Xigaze hosted a vibrant showcase of intangible cultural heritage. The event featured performances by 19 Tibetan opera troupes from across the city’s counties and districts, alongside a wide array of intangible cultural heritage products, offering the visitors a cultural feast of intangible cultural heritage.

From the start, the exhibition and performances became the highlight of the event. The grand narrative and emotional depth of the Gesar rap, paired with traditional local songs and dances, received enthusiastic applause from the crowd. A standout moment came from the Children’s Tibetan Opera Troupe from Guola Village, Gyaco Township, Namling County, whose rendition of a scene from the Tibetan opera Wenbadun won the hearts of the audience.

As visitors enjoyed the cultural performances, they also had the opportunity to explore 50 intangible cultural heritage showcases. Featured items included nationally recognized intangible cultural heritage Gyangze rug weaving, regionally recognized intangible cultural heritage Niu Village’s pottery making, and city-level intangible cultural heritage Qiawa weaving. Ethnic handicrafts and county-level intangible cultural heritage products from Namling County were also exhibited and available for purchase.

These exhibition and sales areas attracted strong consumer interest, with revenue and order volumes continuing to grow throughout the event. According to preliminary figures, on-site sales of intangible cultural heritage products totaled over RMB 450,000.
