On the evening of March 23, the 13th season of Princess Wencheng, a large-scale live-action drama, premiered in Lhasa, Xizang. Several thousand audiences on-site and more than 800 cast members in the theater witnessed the premiere.
Princess Wencheng tells the story of the marriage between Princess Wencheng of the Tang Dynasty and Songtsen Gampo of the Tubo Kingdom which promotes the integration and development of various ethnic groups. The drama also showcases Xizang’s unique charm and vibrant landscapes.
Since its premiere, Princess Wencheng has been performed over 2,100 times. The performance and supporting tourism facilities in the park have welcomed more than 32 million visitors, with nearly RMB500 million disbursed to residents as salaries. The drama has become a model for integrating culture and tourism in Xizang and a “must-visit” place for tourists, creating an impressive brand for cultural and tourism development in Xizang.
Tenzin Chogyal, a student from the folk dance major at Xizang Xigaze No. 2 Secondary Vocational and Technical School, said: “My classmates and I commenced our internship with the crew on March 10. Under the guidance of the director and experienced actors, we gain a daily enhancement of our professional skills. Hopefully, in the future, I will become better skillful, and more individuals will appreciate our rich traditional culture through my dances and performances.”
